Anti-competition zealots ruin Olympics

theQuestion: Have the Olympics lost its luster?*

The progressive movement has ruined the Olympics, which shouldn’t be surprise as it spoils every public sphere it touches.

I have been a diehard Olympics fan for as long as I can remember. It’s the Canadian in me that drives my affinity for the bobsled, ski jump, figure skating, and hockey. The summer games also deliver thrills in every competition involving the core Athenian events — if a sport has tribal roots, I love it.

I could wax poetic and list off the names of great Canadian Olympic athletes for which years of hard work, sacrifice and stunning performance have delivered gold and glory. But I just can’t do it. Reminders of past achievement are painful in the face of the feckless farce today’s Olympics have become.

When I look at the current crop of athletes — those from western cultures — it’s hard to take them seriously. Sure, records were broken in Rio, but these kids were brought up in an education and cultural environment that no longer glorifies competition. Indeed, competition in childhood is viewed with derision.

The same progressive-minded Olympics fans that fawns over today’s athlete and gushes over the spirit of multiculturalism, are also the same social engineering bureaucrats that have stripped competition and excellence from youth. In the classroom, instruction and examination no longer separate the wheat from the chaff, and on the sports field every child gets a blue ribbon — just for participating.

Schools no longer expose our youth to the painful, but much-needed lessons of losing. This notion is new, as progressives only wrested control of our schools in the late 1990s. There is something disingenuous about today’s western Olympic athlete, knowing they are products of a cultural environment that is vehemently anti-competition.

Worse are the social justice warriors stalking Olympic media broadcasts and event coverage searching out perceived slights, double standards and stereotypes in which to shame and exploit over social media. Just Google Olympics 2016 and any combination of the words racist, sexist, misogynist, homophobic and apology, then receive an onslaught of disgusting examples of social justice warriors enforcing progressive totalitarian speech codes.

You don’t think the luster is off the Olympics? Trust über progressive website Vox.com when it says “Rio 2016 didn’t create racism, sexism, and homophobia — it just gave them a two-week platform.” Progressives sure know how to spoil a good time.
